This band just released their debut album "Time Elevation" and friends said that as big Def Leppard fan I really had to hear them. The name of this Swedish band: Grand Design…
When the first notes of Time Elevation bursted out of the speakers, I had to say “This doesn’t sound like Def Leppard” but after a few songs I had to come back on my first reaction. Grand Design blends the bands that ruled the 80’s hard rock into one…. a little bit of Europe, little bit of Bon Jovi and as main ingredient Def Leppard. The larger-than-life drum sound, close harmony vocals and the echo effect on the guitars. Mid-tempo rock songs like the opener "Love Sensation", "Slugged Out", "Air It Out" and "No Time For Love" sounded just like they were forgotten tracks of the legendary Def Leppard "Pyromania" album. You can hear tracks like "Foolin’" and "Too Late For Love" were used as a blueprint.
Fun 80”s rock songs are the great “Sheik Iddup” (what a hilarious title), "Let’s Go Down Fighting" and "Hello Mr. Heartache". I can put them on repeat all day long!
But what about the ballad I can hear you ask…Well the best was saved for last: “Love Will Know” a semi acoustic track.
Vocalist Pelle Saether may not be Joe Elliott or Joey Tempest but that doesn’t matter… If Grand Design made this album in the 80’s they made it big time!
